Did you know that August 30th is National Grief Awareness Day? I never knew this fact until this day changed my life forever. It became the ultimate "before" and "after" day, marking a divide between happy and peaceful living and a journey into the depths of pain I never thought were possible. On August 30th, I lost my daughter, Gracie, to pulmonary embolism. She had no symptoms, no risk factors; we lost her instantly and shockingly, left with whatever tiny shattered pieces remained behind to pick up.
If you have come to this page, chances are that you might be grieving yourself, or perhaps you know someone who is experiencing grief. Whatever your reasons are, I want you to know that you are not alone. Grief can be a heavy load to carry on your own, and grief therapy can provide the support you need. Grief can take many forms and evoke different feelings—sometimes all in a span of just 5 minutes!
Whether your grief is fresh or you've been carrying it for a while, I want you to know that it takes strength and courage to seek support during a time when perhaps even getting out of bed seems like an impossible feat. I am here to walk this excruciating path with you, supporting you through this devastating journey.
Grief is personal... no matter what you might hear from others - that it just takes time, or you just need to push through - please know that it will take however long it needs to take. Grief is a way of coping when we lose someone we love. Without love... there would be no grief. Whether you decide to choose grief therapy or individual therapy, please be patient with yourself. Give your brain the breaks it needs. Ask for help. Take a walk. Drink some water. And know that you are not alone.
